9m in Unmarked Bills – Fremont, Seattle, WA

I've survived a week in the hipster capital of America, Seattle. Maybe second to Portland.

"Seattle is full of ugly depressed hoes"
- Cameron Z.

Great quote, spot on brother. I made the most of my time and found a Dive Bar turned Whisky Bar, 9m in Unmarked Bills. Don't let the name fool you, it's not a shake junt. It is ho.e to a great beer and whisky selection and a legit burger.

Fremont is like Hillcrest/Stift Station except bigger and more rad. Evidently Seattle is covered with cool little neighborhoods like this. I'd move here but the ugly girls and shitty weather would make me blow my brains out.

New Burger Junt coming to Main Street

Coming soon Home Fresh Burgers coming to Main Street

Posted by Cheree Franco on Mon, Sep 24, 2012 at 2:07 PM

HFB_Main_Logo_20120507__2_.jpg

A new burger joint is set to open in the sixth block of Main Street across from RAO Video in late October or early November. Clyde Rhodes will be the local owner and manager of the first Home Fresh Burgers, in partnership with a Los Angeles company, HFB National Holdings. Rhodes spent 21 years in Los Angeles, running a hazardous waste facility, before returning to his hometown to open his own fast food restaurant. “I’ve always had this concept of a burger facility, and I wanted to do it in the South,” he said. “I love food, and I worked at Bennigan’s at Markham and University in the late seventies, before college. I’ve been looking for an opportunity to get into the business, and when it came, I jumped.” Home Fresh will serve 100% Angus char-grilled beef, curly fries and hand-dipped shakes. There will be in-store seating, and tentative hours will be 11 a.m. till 10 p.m., except on Sunday’s, when Home Fresh will close at 6 p.m. Rhodes chose Main Street because, “There’s renovation taking place, and I’ve always thought downtown was a great place to be.”

I can’t tell you how may times I’ve walked out of RAO video with a “Pink” DVD rental and said to myself “I wish there was a burger joint around here.” Looks like I am some kind of savant because my dreams are coming true.

Although the Operator is from L.A., I am going to root for this place. My only fear is that part of Main Street is not exactly foot traffic haven. I know the Downtown Commission is working on bringing life to that area, and they’ve got their work cut out for them.

The Logo is cool. Almost as cool as you.

The Disappearing Heirloom Burger

West Little Rock, aka my least favorite part of town, is home to an Apple Store and a BAMF IMAX theatre. That's the only two reasons you should go out West,  besides this remarkable burger I'm about to tell you about.

I've told you about the most pretentious burger joint in town before, well this burger is from that joint. Big Orange is nestled in Promenade and is fucking clean. As you enter you're greeted by a brunette high schooler playing hostess. There was around 5 of these young ladies running shop and they all looked alike, perhaps clones. Take it in. Only rich white folks. That's remarkable and expected. The decor is minimal and warm. Orange and white color scheme throughout and the back wall covered in rustic reclaimed wood. One of my favorite things is the menu. White space is used so well and looks like someone aced graphic design.

Now let's get to the burger. Specials are written on a chalkboard up front. I was in view of the bar and got to watch the barkeep crank out a dozen Bloody Marys. Its a special on Sunday. The other special was the Heirloom Burger. A beef burger topped with a massive Heirloom tomato, balsamic glaze, weird cheese, and the regular fixins. Shewolf scarfed the burger down in a couple minutes. I had to stop her and request a bite. She snarled and slowly slid the burger my way. A rush of flavor trickled across my tongue. This burger. THIS BURGER.

We also had a never ending bucket of chips. These are accompanied by "special sauce" aka ketchup mayo and pepper. Good enough but I'll go with Town Chips all day.

It took 50 minutes to get our food and that just sucks. The food was on point but 50 minutes sucks.

Toad Suck Bucks – Conway

Okay, I've got one and only one reason you'd drive west from Conway like 20 miles.

It's a prefab metal building and it's… Fab.

I know you like 32oz. Steaks and I know you dig crunk burgers. This place is in the woods, they serve booze, have every flavored vodka ever, wild  dogs outside, Grandmas playing guitar, and friendly country ass staff.

If you live in LR don't waste your time. Just saying.

Low carb masterpiece and a smothered piece of meat

BIKINIS

It's that time of year, time to shed that winter coat if you know what I mean. Ive got a dish for you.

Head down to Dizzy's downtown and order up the lowcarb burger. Feast your eyes on the beauty. Smothered in the veggies you like, peppers, onions, arties etc. Effing awesome. I didn't include the monster cheese dip, its not on your diet shidiot.

Shewolf ordered the hamburger steak. It was too big to finish so yours truly had a nasty leftover lunch.  Baked potato included.

I was told I need to branch out to some new places, look I get it. I understand terrible as fuck WLR had good grub but I'm not trying to compromise my ideals for the trek out west.

DYHSOTF?

Root Cafe, Home of Evil Geniuses and a Nasty Good Burger

Back in the day, 2010, I was working in the beer biz over at the local brewery Diamond Bear. As the only production brewery in the State, we got a lot of visitors and even more interesting beer talk.

Some of my favorite customers include a leathersmith biker, an off the grid gold bug, and a ton of beer nerds. Mixed in with all those customers were a ton of restaurateurs. Back then an up and coming caterer would visit us often for kegs of root beer. He always told me about his aspirations to have a sit down restaurant and by God, he made it happen.

Fast forward to now, Jack Sundell is that caterer with big dreams and also he's an Evil Genius. He's opened his restaurant and it's nasty good. This dude sources as much of his goods local as possible. The map below shows all the sources and locations around the State.

I ordered the Swiss Cheeseburger fully loaded and side salad came with it. The bun was made fresh from across the street at Boulevard Bread. Top it off with a South of the Border Coca-Cola. You gotta do a few things team, namely go to Root Cafe and order exactly what I got and also quit giving fucks. Think positive y'all.

Can I get some burger with that grease?

Wolves. Do you have standards? Rarely do I say "Yes, I have standards fool.", but today I must talk about standards.

Let's go over some things where standards are relevant: Babes, Booze, Burgers. That's pretty much it. That's all that matters. Live by this my friends, you won't be disappointed.

This brings me to a relevant point, Burgers.

ARKANSAS BURGER COMPANY

I was eating there this weekend with Shewolf. We ordered obligatory burgers. This was her first ABC burger in many years so she opted for the Cheeseburger.

She said "Can I get some burger with this grease?" The burger was sopping wet and fell apart. "Can I get a knife and fork for this thing? They should blend this thing up and serve it on a taco."

She's brilliant.

I ordered the Cap City Burger, shrooms+Swiss. Mine also fell apart but the flavor was on. I've got mixed feelings.

If you dig greasy as f burgers then this is for you. I think I'm good on ABC for a while, at least until Q4.

Final thought: Reinvest in the exterior. This place has zero curb appeal, the paint is chipping and the awning is tattered. C'mon management.

Cheeseburger first.
Cap City second.

The Most Pretentious Burger Joint in Town – Big Orange – West Little Rock

Let’s start this West Little Rock food review off proper like. Fuck West Little Rock and all the bad attitudes. High Rollin face ass.
Photo

There’s a (brand) new burger joint in town. Head out to the Promenade at Chenal and you’re gonna find some classy retail shops. Nestled in the mix is a new local grill, Big Orange. I asked if it was a Tennessee Volunteers reference, the said no. They didn’t say much of anything. In fact, this shidiot waitress was clueless. You might be asking yourself “What the heck is a shidiot?” It’s a shitty idiot. Back to Big Orange, this hippy chick could only tell me that the name represented freshness and whatnot.

Image

I had to order a side of chips. I’d put them up there with Town Pump chips. Fresh with some swag dip. Chipotle something. Like Mexican jizz. Fuck yess.

0image

The menu was pricey, but had some good looking burgers. Feast your jealous eyes on the Atom Bomb Burger. Loaded on some kinda kaiser roll or some shit. Pepperjack, lettuce, tomato, onion, chipotle, and Sriracha. MOTHERFUCKING SRIRACHA. It was good. Heat hits your mouth from the sauces then it’s cooled by the sweet bun. Balanced nicely.

1image

I’ve done a few beer surveys and this place is among the most expensive in town. The place is clean as a whistle and very bright lit. If you’re shopping out west, have a pocket full of cheese, and are craving a burger I’d hit this place up. I would recommend you stay the fuck away from WLR unless your a pretentious asshole, in that case stay out there.

Hot Pepper Cheese, Pico, and Guac Burger – Dizzy’s Gypsy Bistro – Downtown LR

Downtown isn’t home to the best gourmet food, but it is home to some good ass American food. I’m a self proclaimed burger connoisseur, and people, let me tell you, I’ve found a new local fave. Enter Dizzy’s Gypsy Bistro. It’s off the beaten path downtown but worth the walk. I’d hyperlink a map but I’m blogging from my phone.
Photo

I’ve been to Dizzy’s a few times with my Ma for drinks but never an all out dinner. She lives downtown and frequents this place. So she suggested and I accepted, bill was on her so it wasn’t much of a question. The menu was diverse and had a large range in price. I am fueled by ground beef and a bad attitude so the burger list got my attention. Gin and Tonic? Dot mind if I do.

Image

I ordered the Hot Pepper Cheese, Pico, and Guac Burger. I have such a hard time passing up Guac. The burger came pub and it was massive. So large in fact, I could not crush through both buns. That’s thick. The ingredients were fresh and the meat was righteous. You want to try this. You want to go on a date here. The atmosphere is chill, yet classy. The owner is always pounding wine at the bar and visits every table. Think Global. Eat Local.

Cheeseburger and Tamales – Arkansas Burger Company – LR

Friday post happy hour I’d developed a strong desire for a burger. Headed down Cantrell hill to Town Pump and they were closed for the weekend! Promptly turned around for ABC. So I get there and 3 BIT’s, bros in training, were manning the fort. I’m not gonna turn this into a bitchfest but they needed a few more bros. ABC was jammed up. Cheeseburger plus JAPS will lift your stupid morale.

Photo

You would think this plus had crunk as hell tamales. You would be wrong. I give them 0 outstandings out of 10. No amount of hot sauce were gonna save these babes.

Image

All in all, I wasn’t really there for the food. I was there with a bud I hadn’t seen in a while. That being said, burger was greasy as, and the tamales sucked. I will go back. Their GYRO is dope and the burgers usually kill. Plus, I didn’t get one, the milkshakes are noteworthy. Happy 4th. Spit on some Brits and sling some lead.

Low Carb Burger – Dizzy’s – Downtown LR

This place never upsets. Off the beaten path, Dizzy’s got some bomb food. I’ve had many items on the menu but yesterday was noteworthy. Me and mom split this dish and it was the perfect portion. So it’s a burger sans bun with a great mix of veggies on top. I’m gonna try to recall them all.

Photo

Bell peppers
Artichoke
Onions
Olives
Tomatoes Cheese
Tobasco like a fucking boss. I did work. Then I went to Midtown. Then I went to The Fountain. Do work son.

Cheeseburger – David’s Burgers – Conway

David’s Burgers

Clean old school type cheesy atmosphere. You know what I like? Burgz. You walk in and are greeted by Dave Jr. At the counter there is a glass meat counter holding fresh meat and veggies bThere are two options, the single or double. It’s a no brained. These bros do 1 thing and do it well. They make fresh ass burgz. Also, hand cut Idaho potato French fries. I got the single fully loaded:
Cheddar
Lettuce
Tomato
Grilled onions
Grilled shrooms
Bacon
JAPS
Love

5 outstandings were muttered during this damnation.

Ain’t nothing Wimpy bout this

Conway, AR aka burger capital AR, is home to Wimpy's. It's the shit. David's Burgers is my OLD fav. It's my old fav solely for the grease wet fries and salt lick burgers. I'm planning on a death by ground beef. So Wimpy's is not quite that. A shit ton of toppings? Check. This happened and I recommend it. Burg and app y'all.

It's a crunk burg with maps and bananas.
Then the fried cheese happened.

Di this place y'all.
